For those of you who may not be aware, the book/reviewer community has been boycotting St. Martin's Press and its imprints (Castle Point Books; Minotaur Books; St. Martin's Essentials; St. Martin's Griffin; Wednesday) since October 2023. It started after community members saw anti-Palestinians and Islamophobic posts on the social media of a St. Martin's Press employee. There were also queerphobic remarks and several people of color have pointed out the press's favoritism for white reviewers when distributing ARCs. All of that and St Martins's actions (or lack thereof) since the boycott started have made the racism in the publishing world more glaring than ever.
For more thorough and detailed information, such as all the demands, graphics, and updates on the situation please visit the website Readers for Accountability . Until the demands are met, I will be joining the boycott and urge my fellow reviewers to do the same. I will not be posting any reviews of their titles nor promoting them, however, as per the boycott's recommendation I will not stop buying and reading those books (so as not to punish the authors). What this means is that when/if I read anything that falls under the St. Martin's umbrella, I'll put only the Book Cover Sticker, provided by the Readers of Accountability, at the monthly wrap-up and nothing else.
I'd also like to add that I am not based in the US but in Brazil and I strongly discourage the circumvention of the boycott by US readers through using the UK/alternative versions of St. Martin's titles.
Here are the three demands of the boycott (all graphics provided by, once again, Readers for Accountability)
